The Açude Bridge is located on the bed of the Mondego River, in the city of Coimbra. Designed in 1978, it came into operation in 1981. The construction of the dam created a permanent body of water in front of the city of Coimbra.
The Açude Bridge was built as a consequence of the dam construction, thus creating an urban road crossing at the northern end of the city.
